Alliance for Retired Americans v. Bessent

Filed in: U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia

Summary

A coalition of nonprofits and labor unions have sued the Trump-Vance administration for sharing Americans’ confidential information with the U.S. Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The plaintiffs allege that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent facilitated DOGE gaining access to the records of the Bureau of the Fiscal Service, which manages financial transactions for the entire federal government, including financial transactions between the government and members of the public. The plaintiffs argue that sharing this information with DOGE violates the Administrative Procedure Act and exceeds the President’s statutory authority. Plaintiffs seek declaratory and injunctive relief.

On March 5, 2026, this case was terminated after the district court issued an order granting defendants’ motion for summary judgment.
