American Federation of Government Employees, AFL-CIO v. Trump

Filed in: U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia

Summary

A coalition of labor unions representing government and public service employees have sued the Trump-Vance administration to block Executive Order 14171, titled “Restoring Accountability to Policy-Influencing Positions Within the Federal Workforce” which removes employment protections for civil servants, allowing them to be fired arbitrarily without consideration of merit or performance. The plaintiffs argue that this order violates their members’ Fifth Amendment right to due process, and violates the Administrative Procedure Act. Plaintiffs seek injunctive and declaratory relief.

The case was voluntarily dismissed on November 24, 2025.
