Legal Action
Las Americas Immigrant Advocacy Center v. U.S. Department of Homeland Security
Filed in: U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia
Summary
A group of immigrant advocates and asylum seekers sued the Trump-Vance administration to block Executive Order 14165, which alters the asylum-seeking process. The plaintiffs argue this executive order violates the 1980 Refugee Act by barring certain migrants from applying for asylum based on the method by which they entered the country. The plaintiffs also argue the executive order, which lowers the criteria under which a non-citizen may be removed from the U.S., will lead to a greater amount of asylum seekers being sent back to countries in which they will face torture and persecution.
