National Treasury Employees Union v. Trump
Filed in: U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia
Summary
A coalition of labor unions representing thousands of workers across the federal government have filed a lawsuit against the Trump-Vance administration in order to block the mass firings of federal workers. On February 11, 2025, President Trump issued Executive Order 14210, which empowers agents from the U.S. Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to control workforce decisions in most federal agencies and directs agency heads to initiate large-scale reductions in force (RIFs). The plaintiffs argue that this order violates the separation of powers enumerated in the Constitution, conflicts with the Inflation Reduction Act, and violates the Administrative Procedure Act. The plaintiffs requested the court declare the mass firings of federal employees unlawful and prevent Executive Order 14210 from being enforced.
