Legal Action

Plaintiffs, a Virginia couple, filed an application for a temporary restraining order under Rule 65(b) of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure to stop the demolition of the East Wing of the White House. They assert that the federal government has begun demolition and construction of a new ballroom without the legally required reviews and approvals. Plaintiffs allege the Trump-Vance administration has violated the National Capital Planning Act, the National Historic Preservation Act, and the oversight authority of the Commission of Fine Arts. Plaintiffs seek to halt further demolition until all required reviews and consultations are completed and request additional equitable relief pending full adjudication.

On October 28, 2025, plaintiffs filed a Notice of Voluntary Dismissal without prejudice.
