Today, Democracy Forward announced the launch of an Executive Order Legal Response Center on Inauguration Day in response to the incoming administration’s planned 100 executive orders across a range of policies. The Legal Response Center is being made available on the Democracy2025.org website, which is the site launched late last year so that the public can follow actions and responses from civil society communities, organizations, and advocates. The Response Center will also feature information regarding legal actions that the pro-democracy community takes against any harmful policies as well as resources for the public.

Democracy Forward will coordinate real-time legal and policy analysis of early Trump-Vance actions. This analysis will help support legal challenges and create resources for the broad pro-democracy community in the early days and weeks of the Trump-Vance administration.

“During his first term, Trump’s executive orders made health care less accessible, costs higher, and America less safe. This time, the Trump-Vance administration is better organized, has four years of previous experience, and can rely on the policy and staffing infrastructure of Project 2025,” said Skye Perryman, President and CEO of Democracy Forward. “The Executive Order Legal Response Center will be ready to respond to Trump’s first executive orders. Scores of lawyers, strategists, experts, community members, and former senior government officials are committed to ensuring the protection of the American people against any actions that harm their freedom or prosperity. We are confident this Center will be a critical resource for opposing dangerous policies in Project 2025 and other harmful and unlawful conduct.”

Democracy Forward today also announced the addition of former government officials and litigators who are supporting these and other efforts:

  • Karianne Jones, former Litigation Counsel for the Harris Campaign and former OMB Assistant General Counsel, is returning to Democracy Forward as Senior Counsel.
  • Mike Martinez, former Deputy General Counsel at the Office of Personnel Management and former Chief of Staff to the Assistant Attorney General, is returning to Democracy Forward as Senior Counsel.
  • Emily Ross, former Executive Secretariat at the Department of Justice, is joining Democracy Forward as Deputy Chief of Staff and Senior Advisor to the President and CEO.
  • Dan McGrath, former Senior Counsel at the Department of Labor, Office of Solicitor, is joining Democracy Forward as Senior Counsel.
  • Kevin Friedl, former Senior Counsel at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, is joining Democracy Forward as Senior Counsel.

Democracy Forward expects to make further announcements regarding additional staff who will be joining the organization throughout the next month.
